From its quaint shops to its beautiful homes and spectacular Hudson River views, Irvington is one of the most popular river towns in Westchester today. The Irvington section of the popular Aqueduct Trail is one of Westchester’s most popular scenic destinations.
Irvington features a variety of options in housing, with choices of both old and new spaces available. Irvington has a direct connection with the Metro North railroad. A commute into New York City’s Grand Central Station is just a 37-minute ride away. Route 9 runs through the outer region of the village, providing easy access in and out of the area. The nearby Tappan Zee Bridge provides instant access to Rockland County and the New York State Thruway.
Irvington is loaded with history. Irvington Town Hall Theatre stands as a replica of the Ford Theatre in Washington, D.C., made famous for the Abraham Lincolnassassination. Odell's Tavern, built in the 1690s, was where the newly created State of New York's Committee of Safety met to discuss General George Washington's defeat in the Battle of Long Island.
The Old Croton Aqueduct Trailway runs through Irvington, offering a scenic walk from northern Westchester County into New York City, or vice versa, following the path of the aqueduct that was once used to bring fresh water from the Croton River to New York City. The trail traverses most of the Historic River Towns, and while mostly a walking path, it does have some sections suitable for horseback riding. The trail is easy to get on and off while offering amazing Hudson River views.
