Welcome to Goshen, New York
Situated at the crossroads of two classic pre-Revolutionary war trails, Goshen began its life as a community in 1714. By 1727, Goshen had become an outpost of a colonial government and the center of a booming agricultural region. Government and agriculture remain as an integral role in Goshen today.
Goshen has a deep connection with its past, typified by the beautiful homes that line the streets of the area. Constructed over two centuries, the unique residences give Goshen its definitive sense history while serving as a marker of the town’s rich past. The historical town features an unusual and appealing blend of old time life and new world technology.
Goshen is perhaps most well known for its connection with horses. By developing and popularizing the standard-bred horse for harness racing, known as the trotter, Goshen would become known as the "trotting capital of the world." Take a tour of the historic track, a National Landmark where the Hambletonian Stakes -- the premiere event of harness racing -- originated.
Goshen is a hot spot for walkers. Among the most popular is the Orange Heritage Trail, which extends from Middletown to Harriman. Currently under construction, this 20-mile trail will wind itself through a bird and wildlife sanctuary, past historic landmarks, meadows, brooks and several historic villages.
